Having seen her team put up a good show at the just-concluded FIFA Series, Harambee Starlets coach Beldine Odemba is just concerned by one key area.

Kenya started their FIFA Series campaign by beating India 2-0 last Saturday before they suffered a 2-0 loss to Australia on Wednesday but in the match against the Matildas, they wasted several chances that would have seen them secure at least a draw.

Starlets players got in good areas a number of times but poor decision making let them down as they either fired wide, when they could easily find the target, or failed to pass to a well-placed teammate.

It is an area of concern for Odemba as it has been happening in previous matches as well and she has put it high on her list of priorities before the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations set to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 18

“We get a lot of chances and now, we really need to work on capitalising on the chances. One chance, one goal is now what we are looking forward to,” said Odemba.

Odemba had explained last weekend that her team’s inability to finish off their chances is down to the fact that she is still testing different combinations in attack but she will be hoping to have addressed the issues before WAFCON where scoring goals will make all the difference.

The tactician is, however, grateful that her team got a chance to play in front of a packed stadium, giving them a feel of such an atmosphere as that is what they will be subjected to in Morocco during WAFCON, given they will take on the hosts in their opening match.

“We had a great atmosphere; it has been long since we played in a stadium that is this filled. It has been long at least we have started getting the feel of playing in bigger stadiums,” she added, while hinting that she might not make changes to her team before WAFCON.

“Changes will depend whether we have injuries. So far, we have a good squad. We have seen people that we are building the squad around. There is a chance that we might have a change of one or two.”

At WAFCON, Kenya are in a tricky Group A that has hosts Morocco, Algeria and Senegal.
