Harambee Starlets began their campaign with a 1-0 win over India, which set up a high-profile final against the reigning Asian champions.

Although they fell short in the final, Harambee Starlets impressed with their intensity and created several chances, with Mwanalima Adam noting that missed opportunities and avoidable mistakes ultimately cost them a better result.

Mwanalima Adam: We Did Not Focus on the Big Names

Speaking after the match, Mwanalima Adam said that, as she had mentioned before the match, the team entered the fixture with strong belief in their abilities and a positive mindset.

The former Kansas City ace noted that they were not intimidated by their opponents' reputations, including high-profile players such as Chelsea forward Sam Kerr, choosing instead to focus on their own game plan.

Mwanalima Adam added that, in her view, Harambee Starlets produced a superior performance on the day, suggesting that their display was of a standard comparable to top European clubs rather than their opponents.

Adam expressed pride in the team’s effort and progress, saying they would continue working hard to improve. She also highlighted that the growth of women’s football is encouraging and moving in a very positive direction.

“Just as I said before the match, our confidence is high. We didn’t want to deal with the names, like Sam Kerr. I think we played better. Someone would think we are the ones who play for Chelsea and Arsenal rather than them. I’m proud of how we played, and we shall continue putting in the work, and now, at least, women’s football is on a high,” Mwanalima Adam said.

Now, focus shifts to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Harambee Starlets will be looking to make a mark and hopefully qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

The four semifinalists automatically qualify for the World Cup, while two additional teams can advance through a FIFA inter-confederation play-off tournament.
