FIFA Ranking: Harambee Starlets Surge After Gallant FIFA Series Performance
Harambee Starlets’ impressive performance at the FIFA Series has significantly improved their FIFA Ranking following the latest update.
Kenya played two matches against highly-ranked nations India and Australia and won one while losing the other.
Starlets lost 2-0 to Australia on Wednesday, a game in which they had plenty of opportunities to pick a positive result from, while they had beaten India 2-0 on Saturday to book their slot in Wednesday’s final.
Following the win over India, who were ranked 67th at the start of the mini-tournament, and the slim loss to 15th-ranked Australia, Kenya have moved up five places on the FIFA ranking.
Beldine Odemba’s team gained 9.94 points from their win over India and 0.82 from the loss to Australia, which takes their tally to 1,104.82 points.
Where Are Harambee Starlets in FIFA Ranking?
That has propelled them to position 128 in the world, five places higher than they were before the FIFA Series, which will boost their confidence as they head to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Australia remain unchanged in position 15 while India have dropped two places to 69 in the world after their loss to Kenya, coupled with a 3-2 win over lowly Malawi in the third-place playoff of the FIFA Series in Nairobi.
In East Africa, Tanzania are the highest ranked team at position 121 followed by Kenya (128) while Uganda are 146th in the world. Globally, the top four are unchanged with Spain, USA, Germany and England following each other respectively.
Kenya’s performance will be a morale booster as they head to WAFCON where the top four will seal a ticket to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil but they can also boost their ranking further by making it to the knockout rounds given they are in the same group with better ranked sides in Morocco (62nd in the world), Algeria, ranked 73rd globally, and 79th-placed Senegal.
