Finidi George: Enyimba's title-winner's job on the line after bizarre 48-hour ultimatum from new Sporting Director
Former Super Eagles star Finidi George, his technical crew and other staff at Enyimba could be without jobs following a directive from the club’s new Sporting Director.
Newly appointed Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme sent a memo that could spell doom for Finidi and other staff at the club.
Finidi led the Aba Millionaires to a historic ninth title in the NPFL following a successful Super 6 campaign in Lagos last month.
Finidi, others face sack at Enyimba
The former Ajax and Super Eagles winger was appointed manager of the People’s Elephant in 2021.
Two years later, he led the club to the League title after an unbeaten run in the season finale, the Super 6.
However, less that four weeks after the remarkable achievement, Finidi and his crew are facing the sack in Aba.
According to a memo from the new Sporting Director, a former Super Eagles midfielder, Enyimba’s coach, the technical crew and other staff must reapply for their positions.
Ekwueme, who acted on behalf of new Chairman, Kanu Nwankwo, gave the parties involved a 48-hour ultimatum.
“The management, staff and technical crew of Enyimba first and second teams are hereby instructed to re-apply for their positions with immediate effect,” the letter stated.
“All application should be submitted to the club TMS manager within 48 hours,” it added.
Ekwueme has wasted no time in making his presence felt at the club just days after he was appointed as the new football chief at the Aba Millionaires.
The former Nigeria international was appointed by another former international, Kanu, who was named as Enyimba’s new chairman by the Abia State Government led by Governor Alex Otti.
