The incident occurred during a tense Group B match at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, casting a shadow over what was otherwise a successful outing for the Moroccan giants.

The drama unfolded late in the second half of the match on Friday evening. After a physical battle in midfield, the former Young Africans SC star went down in the 78th minute, necessitating immediate intervention from the medical team.

The technical bench wasted no time, substituting the playmaker for Mohamed Rayhi to ensure he received urgent care while the team fought to protect their slender 1-0 lead.

Following his removal from the pitch, Aziz Ki was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency scans. The sight of one of the continent's most exciting players being transported for medical checks caused significant concern among fans and pundits alike.

However, the club has moved swiftly to provide a transparent update regarding the severity of the injury.

“The medical staff of the club informs that the player Aziz Ki suffered a head trauma. He was immediately transferred to hospital, where he underwent necessary tests, which confirmed his condition was stable,” the statement reads.

The club is adhering to strict concussion and head trauma protocols to ensure the player's long-term safety. While the initial tests have brought relief to the camp, the medical team is taking a cautious approach. The protocols dictate that despite his stability, immediate discharge is not an option until a mandatory observation period has been completed to rule out any delayed symptoms.

This careful management is standard procedure for such injuries, but it means the player will remain separated from the squad's general activities for the immediate future. The focus has shifted entirely from the three points gained to the well-being of the Burkinabé international.

Mandatory Observation Period

In a follow-up to the initial diagnosis, the club confirmed that the player will not be released immediately. They emphasized that monitoring is essential for the next day.

“In accordance with the protocol in force, the player will remain under close medical supervision for 24 hours, as a precaution. Any new developments in his health condition will be communicated as soon as possible, can be read in the press release!”

A Lively Performance Cut Short

Before the injury curtailed his evening, Aziz Ki was a central figure in Wydad’s attacking play. Returning to Tanzania, where he previously starred for Yanga, he was eager to make an impact against familiar rivals Azam FC.

He wasted no time settling in, registering his first shot of the match in just the third minute, signaling his intent to the home crowd.

His influence continued into the second half, where he unleashed another attempt in the 49th minute.

Although he finished the game with one big chance missed and one shot on target, his ability to find space was causing problems for the Azam defense.

He notably had zero shots blocked, highlighting his ability to find clear sight of goal before his unfortunate substitution. Wydad fans will be hoping the 24-hour supervision passes without issue so their creative spark can return to the lineup.
