Stephane Aziz Ki’s limited gametime for Wydad Athletic Club at the Club World Cup has left him fearing the worst just a few weeks after joining the club.

Burkina Faso international Stephane Aziz Ki joined Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club with much promise in May but just one month later, there is already a worry.

Ki joined Wydad on a big-money contract from Tanzanian giants Yanga, having signed a two-year deal that will earn him $480,000 (Ksh62 million) per year, broken down to $40,000 (Ksh5.2 million) per month during his spell in Morocco.

Additionally, he is to be paid a signing-on fee of $150,000 (Ksh19.4 million) while he is entitled to bonuses for goals and assists which are yet to be made public.

Given the huge outlay and his stature as one of the best playmakers on the continent, Ki was set to slot into the starting XI from the off but that has not been the case.

Ki’s 11 Minutes at Club World Cup a Major Worry

While he was signed to help shore up Wydad at the FIFA Club World Cup, he ended up playing just 11 minutes in the three games that the Moroccan team featured in before their group stage elimination.

Ki got just seven minutes in Wydad’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, before it was reduced to four in the 4-1 thrashing by Juventus and he was an unused substitute as they lost 2-1 to Al Ain.

It is not the start he wished for and now, there are already question marks over his future in Morocco, just one month in.

According to OneFootball, Ki is among players whose futures are uncertain as the club plans a squad overhaul with nine players set to leave while there is also debate on who among the eight foreign players needs to leave to create room for new signings while complying with the rules as only five are allowed.

The situation has left Ki and his representatives worried as what seemed like a dream move is already turning into a nightmare for the forward who left Yanga with his stock high and risks fading into oblivion unless Wydad can offer him guarantees of regular playing time in a season when there is the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in December.
