NOC-K president Paul Tergat has called upon stakeholders to support athletes ahead of the Olympic Games.

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya president Paul Tergat has called upon stakeholders to support athletes ahead of the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Tergat said the global event only happens once in four years and it would be a great opportunity for stakeholders to chip in where they can and ensure that the athletes are highly motivated as they gear up to compete on the global stage.

"I want to call upon all the stakeholders who want to support these games to come forward and support this participation.

The Olympics only happen once in four years…it does not happen every other day. It is a huge opportunity for our sportsmen to get this opportunity which is the apex of the sports arena.

Therefore, we should support them and give them positive vibes as they look to qualify. This will also motivate them to bring more medals,” Tergat said.

He added that the National Olympic Committee of Kenya is doing the due diligence to ensure that the athletes will have an easy time during their stay in Paris.

At the moment, some members of NOC-K are in Paris to check out where the athletes will be staying and the mode of transport to be used to the venues of the different sports disciplines.

“It’s upon all of us to see to it that we don’t drop the ball at any point going forward. We want to ensure that the accommodation and all the logistics around the games are realistic.

We want to be hands-on in everything that we are doing so that we can be able to send a very strong team. We are hoping to send the highest team, maybe 100 athletes who will represent the country.

We have also been working closely with Miramas training camp in the Southern part of France and we want to harmonise and put everything in place in terms of preparation for these games,” Tergat added.
