After successfully hosting the first-ever Beach Games in the country, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) is plotting big as they plan to host another edition of the event on the shores of Lake Turkana.
NOC-K Secretary General Francis Mutuku noted that they want to grow the beach games all over the country and called for relevant affiliates to be open to collaboration.

Omanyala is also confident that the country can host the Africa and World Beach Games.
Mutuku observed that with the collaboration, they will be able to give chances to many people all over the country.
“Kenya is full of talent and I want to urge our affiliates to be open to collaborate with us. If they work with us, they will be able to give very many opportunities to our sports people. We promise to collaborate with more stakeholders to make sure the events are there.

The Kenya National Beach Games will be staged in Malindi, Kilifi County from March 17- 19.
We are looking at the oceans, lakes and the rivers and we shall take sports to those regions. Our dream is that one time we shall be able to have the beach games on the shores of Lake Turkana,” Mutuku told KBC Sport.
The inaugural Kenya Beach Games had attracted over 700 athletes and Mutuku noted that the turnout was impressive considering it was the first.
Mutuku added that what inspired them to stage the games was wanting to nurture talent among the youth and develop a new crop of players who can ensure the sport does not die.

At the 2019 Africa Beach Games held in Cape Verde, Kenya finished 12th in the medal table with three medals (one silver and two bronze).
He noted that hosting the beach games would also enable the federations to identify more talent and help select a formidable team for the two international events.
“We were very impressed with the turnout. The motivation behind the beach games was to continue engaging the youth and ensure continuity of the sport…we wanted to widen the space. It was also to be used as a buildup for the African Beach Games and World Beach Games,” he said.
