Team Kenya will be up against countries from Nigeria, Botswana, Burundi, and Ghana, Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, and Morocco.

Reigning Wimbledon junior doubles champion Angella Okutoyi is ready to take on other greats from 11 countries at the Billie Jean King Cup Group III tournament scheduled for Monday 12 to Saturday 17 June.

Okutoyi revealed that she has been training intensively and she is ready to take up the challenge. She said her season has been great so far and she is ready to continue the winning streak.

“I’ve had a great season and I’m ready for the tournament. I have been playing a lot of matches and training too…I am very ready for the challenge,” Okutoyi told KBC Sport.

Team Kenya will be up against countries from Nigeria, Botswana, Burundi, Ghana, Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, and Morocco. A win for Team Kenya will mean a promotion to the Billie Jean Euro Africa Group II

If given a chance, Okutoyi said she will be happy to play against all the teams since she is unfazed by any of the teams.

“I’m going out there to do my best and make the country proud, so I’m ready for whoever I will be playing against,” she said.

She added that training together as a team has enabled them to build rapport and encourage each other. With that, she is confident Team Kenya will shine.

The team was in residential training at the Nairobi Club where they would practice twice each day.

“I believe we can do it since we try to motivate and encourage each other,” she said.

Okutoyi added that the newly-crowned 1500m world record holder Faith Kipyegon has come as a source of motivation to her at such a crucial moment.

“Her win gives me the motivation and she is a source of inspiration. She is a mother and she is able to break records, it’s a good thing,” she said.
