GENERAL Acakoro to construct 458m sports academy in Homa Bay

The Academy has excited locals with great expectations that sports talents in the region will be boosted.'

The Homa Bay County government and Acakoro Football Academy have announced plans to start a modern sports academy.

The project, aimed at tapping into the enormous talent found in youths in the county, will be built at the cost of Ksh 458 million.

According to Homa Bay County governor Glady Wanga, the facility will be developed on 20 acres of land.

"We have signed an agreement with the Acakoro Football Academy witnessed by the Austrian Ambassador to Kenya H.E, Christian Fellner, to build a state-of-the-art sports academy in Homa Bay County.

The facility will cover 20 acres of land, have football fields, schools, boarding houses, a dispensary, and offer scholarships to talented youth. Thanks to our partners from Austria for their support!" she said in a statement.

The ambitious project will be built at Kanyamwa-Kosewe Ward, Ndhiwa sub-county, and will also offer scholarships to talented youths and create employment opportunities for the locals.

The academy will feature two football fields, primary and secondary schools, an administration block, boarding facilities, a dispensary, and a community resource center.

The facility will also engage in corporate social responsibility activities that benefit the county's people.

Acakoro Academy is an Austrian-Kenyan partnership project founded in 2013 in the Korogocho slums in Nairobi.

They provide training kits and school uniforms and pay school fees for all the children in their project.

Their partnership with Homa Bay Country is the biggest project in Kenya and will be expected to produce great sportspeople who will play for the national teams in the future.
