The league features U13, U15, and U17 players from top football academies.
The 2022/23 FKF Nairobi Elite Youth League kicked off on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Kasarani Annex.
The league for brilliant talents between 13 and 17 years is geared at reviving grassroots football across the county.
According to FKF Nairobi East Secretary General Dickson Doyo, the move will also fit within the national football governing body in their plan to identify and groom players to feed senior teams.
“What we are trying to do is to revamp the youth leagues all over the country. It will not happen only in Nairobi, but we started the program here hoping to spread to regions and all corners of the country.
Today we have hosted a few teams, U13, U15, and U17, but the total number of groups we will have here in Nairobi will be about 60 teams to ensure they are given a platform to showcase their talent,” said Doyo.
This is the third edition of the league, with the first being held in 2017, which saw several players join the first U15 national team.
Many players from that side are currently playing in the Premier League and NSL, and some have got contracts to play abroad.
“When we look back at our first edition of the Elite League, you can see a lot of players from U-15 participating in the FKF Premier League.
We have Kevin Otiala, who turns for Kariobangi Sharks, and some players in the National Super League and Division One, achievements which motivate us to continue with the program.” added Doyo.
Over 24 teams participated in the U13 category, which attracted various academies, including Green Santos, Ligi Ndogo, Baba Dogo Youth, Kahawa Pride, Acakoro Academy, Pumwani Sports Academy, and Cheza Sports.
In the U15 category, sixteen teams from the county participated, while the U17 attracted ten teams.
