The former Posta Rangers striker has revealed why turning down a foreign move for CHAN 2024 turned out to be the smarter choice.
Harambee Stars striker Felix Oluoch has revealed why he does not regret ditching a move abroad to be included in Benni McCarthy’s African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) squad.
Felix Oluoch was close to finalising a deal with Zimbabwean top-flight side Scottland, when he received the late call-up.
The Gor Mahia striker made the surprise decision, and in an interview with SportPesa blog, he revealed that he was planning to fly out of the country the same night to sign with his new club.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has explained how the 2024 CHAN tournament has shown the local Kenyan leagues are capable of producing top talents for the national team.
Being a huge moment in his career, Felix Oluoch decided to make what seemed like the right decision then.
“Later, I was called by assistant coach Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani only to be informed to join the national team training the following morning, and that is how I cancelled my travel out of the country to Zimbabwe, where I was to sign for another team,” Felix Oluoch revealed.
Felix Oluoch Reveals Why He Does Not Regret Ditching Move to Zimbabwe
According to Felix Oluoch, the money he would be paid as the sign-on fee was much less than what President William Ruto had promised Harambee Stars players if they made a mark in the group stages.
For winning their matches against two-time champions Morocco and DR Congo, Harambee Stars players walked away with Ksh 2 million each.
Following their 1-1 draw with Angola, the players pocketed Ksh 500,000, and after beating Zambia to enter the quarterfinal, they earned Ksh 2.5 million.

Benni McCarthy has been named the SJAK Coach of the Month of August, marking a rare milestone for a foreign tactician in Kenyan football.
“It was the right decision because even when you look at the signing bonus that I was being given there and what I was making at CHAN from President Ruto…I have earned much more, so it means I made the best decision,” he told Pulse Sports.
Felix Oluoch Reflects on Long-Awaited Debut
Felix Oluoch revealed that he was prepared to make his Harambee Stars debut against Morocco, but following the red card, Benni McCarthy had to make critical decisions.
He finally made his debut in the match against Zambia, where Harambee Stars won 1-0, and he revealed that he was aware of what he needed to do in the match, noting that coach Benni McCarthy had provided him with all the necessary materials.
“My debut was okay, I got some minutes, and the coach had already prepared me for the challenge. The other time, it was the red card that brought an issue, but I was ready. It gets to a point where tactics do not matter, and what you have to do is to keep the ball for long,” he added.
Despite Harambee Stars being knocked out of the tournament following a loss to Madagascar in the quarterfinal, Felix Oluoch has no regrets with the decision he made.
