Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has weighed in on his future in Kenya, confirming when he thinks will be the right time to leave.
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has explained why he has no desire to work in Kenya beyond his contract.
McCarthy, who took over Harambee Stars in March this year, has a contract until 2027 just after that year’s Africa Cup of Nations, which will be played in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The South African tactician took over his first job as international coach, after spells as head coach of AmaZulu and Cape Town City as well as a two-year stint with Manchester United as their attacking coach.

With Kenya counting on him to bring glory to the country, McCarthy admits he is here for a short time as he still has a burning ambition to manage a club, even if his spell with Harambee Stars will be a huge success.

Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy had to fight back tears as he mourned the shocking death of one of his former FC Porto team-mates.
“I am a young coach and still new at this. This is my fourth job as a manager. I want to learn and better myself,” McCarthy told the media on Wednesday.

“My ambition is to one day go back and manage a club. I want to do this every day. I want to be with the players every day. At international level, you do not get that.”
The former FC Porto, Ajax Amsterdam and Blackburn Rovers striker feels managing a national team is something he would like to get back to in the final years of his career after fully exploiting the club football space.

Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has explained how he plans to use Manzur Okwaro to silence Angola while revealing why Masoud Juma might sit out.
“Maybe when I am 70, I can come back but for now, I am too young to do this [manage national team] for 10 years. So, I want to go back to club football. It would be very selfish if I do not continue learning,” he added.
“In the near future, I would be looking to manage a football club because I want to pass the knowledge to players every day.”
McCarthy will be hoping that his spell in Kenya is a success at it will play a part in which job he gets next, having expressed a desire to coach a side that challenges for big domestic and continental trophies.
