The Real Madrid star was excluded by Ancelotti from Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.

Several Brazilian press agencies are reporting that Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. has been left off the preliminary squad list submitted by coach Carlo Ancelotti to FIFA.

Vinicius Jr. will not be available for Brazil's next two matches. Ancelotti has excluded him from the preliminary squad, and the newspaper Marca has uncovered the reasoning behind this surprising decision.

The reason for his absence is a combination of suspension and a technical decision. The Real Madrid forward received his third yellow card in the 1-0 victory against Paraguay, automatically ruling him out of the match against Chile on September 4th.

Given this situation, the coaching staff also chose to rest him for the match against Bolivia, scheduled for September 9th in El Alto, intending to give him a break after a season where he played over 60 official matches for both club and country.

In contrast, Vini's Real Madrid teammates, Rodrygo and Éder Militão, who were absent from the previous Seleção squad due to injuries, have been included in Ancelotti's preliminary list.

Militão's return is particularly significant, as he has fully recovered from his second cruciate ligament surgery. The center-back even started in Real Madrid's friendly match last Tuesday against Austrian side Tirol.

Brazil has already qualified for the 2026 World Cup

Carlo Ancelotti will officially announce the squad next Monday, August 25th, during an event organized by the Brazilian Football Confederation. The players will begin training on September 1st.

Brazil has already secured its spot for the next World Cup in 2026. They are currently third in the South American group with 25 points and can no longer miss the final tournament hosted next year by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
