Kenya had known that a meeting with Tanzania would be on the cards in Dar es Salaam if they do not win against Zambia while either DR Congo or Morocco, who face each other on Sunday, win.

That would mean second place in the group for Benni McCarthy’s men but now, they know who they will face if they beat the Chipolopolo and finish top of Group A.

Following the conclusion of Group B matches on Saturday, Tanzania remained top but with 10 points, after a goalless draw with Central Africa Republic, but it is Madagascar who stole second place from Mauritania.

How Did Madagascar Move Ahead of Mauritania?

Mauritania, who were on seven points, were hoping that Madagascar would fail to win against Burkina Faso for them to make it through but the island African nation secured a 2-1 victory over the Burkinabe which saw them move level on points but with a superior goal difference.

With both sides on the same points and with an identical head-to-head record, after their goalless draw when they faced each other, it was down to goals which saw Madagascar edge it.

Harambee Stars will therefore face Madagascar in the quarter-final in Nairobi if they finish top of Group A and this is the outcome many Kenyan fans are hoping for to avoid playing on enemy territory in Tanzania.

Kenya could still finish top of the group with a draw but this would mean that DR Congo and Morocco would also need to play out a stalemate as that would leave Harambee Stars on eight points while the other two on seven each.
