Victor Lindelof was forced to rush home midway through Manchester United’s Europa League clash against Lyon and his wife has provided shocking details of what happened.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof had a serious issue at home that forced him to abandon his team’s Europa League clash mid-match last Thursday.

Lindelof was named on the bench during the clash against French side Lyon, which United won in dramatic fashion in extra time, but he was nowhere to be seen at halftime before it later emerged that he had been granted permission to head home.

Manager Ruben Amorim did not go into details over what happened but the defender’s wife has provided shocking details of what transpired on the day as it emerged that one of their children had sustained a serious injury.

“An hour before the [Lyon] game started, our babysitter called and said they were in an ambulance on the way to hospital,” Maja wrote on social media.

“My youngest son Francis had split his entire head open. He had been chasing his big brother Ted Louie at home, and fallen into our glass staircase. His forehead was in two parts. He was in hospital both Thursday and Friday.”

Maja then gave her fans an assurance that her son was recovering well although he will have to live with a big scar on his forehead.

“He had to have plastic surgery to put his forehead back together. He was put under anaesthetic. It is the first time I have experienced something like this happening with one of my children,” she further wrote.

“It was incredibly unpleasant, and not something I want to experience again. The operation went well, and Francis is back on track. He is a Viking, and back to normal.

“Everyone was so worried, but he continues his life as if nothing has happened. The doctors say he will have a big scar on his forehead. But never mind - I'm just happy that it went so well.”

Lindelof was back in action on Sunday, captaining United, as they hosted Wolves in a Premier League match which Amorim’s team lost 1-0.

Lindelof and Maja have two sons and they are excoecting a third child.
