Thursday's Europa League comeback has offered Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim a lifeline to salvage a poor campaign.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has turned all his focus to their Europa League campaign following Thursday night’s heroics against Lyon.

With United's Europa League journey still on track and potentially just three games away from glory, Amorim is banking on the surefire Europa League route rather than hoping for a Hail Mary in the Premier League.

The United tactician is looking to rest key players in league matches as they prepare for their all-important tie against Athletic Bilbao.

United have upcoming Premier League fixtures against Wolves on Sunday, followed by Bournemouth.

Amorim, however, has pointed out that these matches will see a lot of rotation, as they aim to have a fresh, rejuvenated squad for their Europa League clash.

“This kind of moment can help the players a lot in this kind of season,” Amorim told BBC Sport.

“It can create some connection between the fans and the players, and we can forget for a few minutes what kind of season we are having,” he said, reflecting on their campaign.

United have had a poor campaign but that can change if they manage to claim the Europa League and carve a path to next season’s Champions League.

“Today is a good feeling, but tomorrow we start everything again.”

“We have to take a risk and save some players. If you look at our season, the most important thing for everybody is the Europa League," he added.

United’s season now comes down to the two games against Spain’s Athletic Bilbao and, possibly, a final against either Bodo/Glimt from Norway or Tottenham.

Their Premier League fate looks sealed, as they currently sit 14th with 38 points.
