Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou has come to the defense of his charges and Europa League final opponents Manchester United.

The English clubs overcame their respective opponents to set up an all-English final in the Europa League.

Tottenham secured a 5-1 win on aggregate over Bodo Glimt, while United thwarted Athletic Bilbao 7-1 on aggregate.

However, the English clubs have come under heavy scrutiny given their woeful league form. Tottenham and United are separated by just a point in 16th and 15th, respectively.

"It's going to upset a lot of people, isn't it?" Postecoglou said. "The debate's now raging. The latest one is that neither of us will be able to get a trophy if we win, they're just going to take a team photo because we're not worthy," said the Tottenham coach, as quoted by BBC Sports.

"I mean, who cares if we're struggling in the league? It's a separate thing. It's got nothing to do with league form," he added.

Tottenham and United are separated by just a point in 16th and 15th, respectively.

"I couldn't care less who's struggling and who's not. I think both us and Manchester United have earned the right to be there."

The Spurs boss is looking to make good on his promise of winning in each of his second seasons at every club he has coached.

A win will see them break their over-a-decade-long trophy drought, having last lifted the Carabao Cup in 2008.

On their side, United are eyeing a second Europa League title, having won the trophy in 2017 with Jose Mourinho.
