Khalid Aucho and Young AFricans grabbed an away advantage in the CAF Confederations Cup over Rivers United.

Ismail Watenga was unused on Sunday but will be content by the point that his side Marumo Gallants picked from Pyramids in their 1-1 draw in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Ranga Chivaviro had given the South Africans the lead in the 55th minute but Mpho Mvelase’s moment of madness in the extra time caused a penalty.

The right-back clumsily raised his hand to handle a Hamdy Sharaf’s cross with the referee pointing to the spot. Ramadan Sobhi calmly converted to split the points.

Tanzanian Giants Young Africans grabbed the biggest win of the day with a 2-0 win over Rivers United in Uyo, Nigeria, to put one foot into the semi-final.

Congolese striker Fiston Kalala Mayele scored in the 73rd and 80th minutes as Bakari Nondo registered a brace of assists to seal the win.

The match had been locked for 70 minutes before coach Nasreddine Nabbi introduced Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho for Yanick Bangala Litombo.

Yanga will host the Nigerians this weekend in Dar Es Salaam as they look to make history by reaching the semi-final of a continental championship for the first time in their history.

The team last reached this stage in 1995 when they bowed out to Blackpool FC from Zimbabwe.

In the other ties, US Monastir from Tunisia was held to a goalless draw by ASEC Mimosa from Ivory Coast as USM Alger beat Morroco’s army side AS FAR 2-0 in Algiers.

CAF Confederations weekend results;
