Beatrice Chebet has revealed her immediate next plans after her historic 5000 meters run at the Rome Diamond League as she gears up preparations for the Tokyo World Championships.

Kenyan long distance star Beatrice Chebet has revealed her plans for the remainder of the season ahead of the Tokyo World Championships following her dominating Rome Diamond League 5000 meter exploits last Friday.

Chebet ran the second fastest time ever recorded in the event by a woman, missing out on the world record incidentally set by Tsegay of 14:00.21 in Eugene in 2023.

Hailu Freweyni came in a distant second on  14.19.33, while  Nadia Battocletti of Italy came in third on 14.23.15.

Speaking to FloTrack in Rome, Chebet revealed her immediate next plans as she continues preparing for Tokyo, where she is hunting for that elusive double gold at the World Championships.

"For now we are going for trials in Eugene for Pre-Classic. After that, I just come back home and continue with the training and focus on the World Championship,” said Chebet.

“I think Prefontaine will be my last Diamond League before the World Championship."

Chebet has explained she will not relent until she adds two gold medals to her collection, having settled for different colours at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

"That's the main goal now. We have already achieved our gold in 5,000 and 10,000 in the Olympics.

“So the main focus now is to go and achieve the gold in the World Championship. I know it's not easy, but everyone is fighting for gold. So even me, I just want to stay focused and focus on that goal."

Meanwhile, Chebet has also explained how she is using her platform to motivate young, up and coming athletes as she continues making her star rise.

"I've already motivated young athletes, young ladies, and they start now believing that everyone is a champion. It's just a matter of time.

“You give yourself time, you have to be more focused, more disciplined, and I know they will achieve. So it's just a matter of time."

Chebet has swiftly risen to prominence as one of Kenya's most versatile and consistent distance runners.

A Legacy in the Making

Chebet’s journey has been nothing short of phenomenal. She burst onto the scene in 2018 by becoming the first Kenyan woman to win the World U20 5,000m title.

In 2022, she earned silver at the World Championships in Eugene and later won Commonwealth gold in Birmingham, rounding off the year with a Diamond League Final win in Zurich.

She kept the momentum going into 2023 with a dominant gold at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst and a bronze in the 5,000m at the World Championships in Budapest.

Chebet’s 2024 season will go down as one of the greatest ever by a female distance runner. She began the year with a gold medal at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, then shattered the 10,000m world record (28:54.14) at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene.

At the Paris Olympics, she sealed her place in history with golden runs in both the 5,000m (14:28.56) and 10,000m (30:43.25).

She crowned her unforgettable season on December 31 by smashing the women’s-only 5km road record in Barcelona, stopping the clock at 13:54—19 seconds faster than the previous record.
