The Super Falcons of Nigeria, led by British-born Ashleigh Plumptre, enjoyed their victory over Australia at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and celebrated with some “jajiye-jaiye” music and dancing.

After a hard-fought win against co-hosts Australia that saw Nigeria top Group B of the World Cup, the Super Falcons observed some well-earned downtime in their locker room.

With some old-school fuji music from the legendary crooner King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka K1 de Ultimate, to set the tone, the triumphant Super Falcons grooved and gyrated to celebrate their first win of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Plumptre, who had a solid game in defence for the Super Falcons, was joined by goalscorers Asisat Oshoala and Uchena Kanu, as well as record-breaking captain Onome Ebi, in the dancing as the Nigerian team toasted to their famous win.

Super Falcons top Group B

The Super Falcons’ win was well worth celebrating, as their win all but ensured their qualification to the next round despite having a final group game to play against Ireland.

Nigeria climbed to the top of Group B, ahead of Canada on goal difference, after beating Australia 3-2 and they only need to equal the Canadians' result against Australia to claim a place in the second round for the second tournament in a row for the first time in history.

With Canada and Australia facing each other in the final game of the group stage, Nigeria could qualify for the second round with a draw against Ireland, although they will be hoping to maintain momentum after the win over the Matildas.
