England-born Super Falcons star Ashleigh Plumptre has opened up on her favourite Naija delicacy and revealed her favourite Afrobeat artiste.

Super Falcons of Nigeria defender Ashleigh Plumptre has quickly become a fan-favourite amongst supporters of the national team.

The 25-year-old England-born defender is one of the stars of the Super Falcons squad currently at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Since, making her debut for the Falcons in 2022, Plumptre has remained a key figure in Nigeria’s defence and has been lauded for her performances for the iconic Green and White.

Ashleigh Plumptre reveals her favourite Nigerian food

The Super Falcons centre-back opened up in an interview about her love for Nigerian culture and revealed her favourite Nigerian delicacy.

Speaking to Soccernet in a quick Q&A, Plumptre said when asked about her favourite Nigerian food:

 People are always disappointed because I love Moi-Moi, and I don’t know if it’s because my aunties here, make it really good. They put a lot of shrimp and different meats in it, but the Moi-Moi here is so good, because it’s homemade. 

This would not be the first time Plumptre has spoken boldly about her admiration for the Nigerian steamed bean pudding. 

She has also previously revealed her love for the Nigerian Jollof rice as well as Pepper Soup.

It;s no secret that Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy are three of Africa’s biggest music exports.

The multi-award-winning Afrobeat giants have recorded impressive success and reached digital milestones with Nigerian music on the international scene having sold out venues worldwide.

So it comes as no surprise, to see one of Nigeria’s foreign-based players speak on their admiration for the superstar trio.

Ashleigh Plumpre also revealed that she has an Afrobeats playlist that is dominated by songs from Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy.

Although, she revealed that she used to listen to Nigerian juju legend King Sunny Ade when she first joined the Super Falcons team as her Aunt and her Grandfather would always play his songs for her.

When the Leicester City star was asked to choose her favourite artiste amongst Afrobeat’s big three, she said, “I think.. Burna Boy”.

Plumptre received her first Super Falcons call-up for an eight-day training camp held in Austria the following month, after expressing her desire to play for Nigeria in June 2021.

 She qualifies to play for Nigeria through her paternal grandfather who is Yoruba from Lagos

She made an unofficial debut on 23 July 2021, starting in a 1–0 friendly win over Slovenian 1. SŽNL club Olimpija Ljubljana.

 In November 2021, she attended a training camp in Nigeria. In late December 2021, she was officially cleared by FIFA to represent Nigeria.

She made her official debut on 18 February 2022, starting in a 2–0 win over Ivory Coast during 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualification.

On 16 June 2023, she was included in the 23-player Nigeria squad for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Plumptre is expected to return for the Super Falcons of Nigeria when they face Australia in their second Group B game at the 2023 Women’s World Cup on Thursday, July 27, 2023.
