Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Besiktas defeated Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in a dramatic Istanbul derby, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s goal boosting Galatasaray’s Turkish Super Lig title hopes.

Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce suffered a crushing blow in the Turkish Super Lig title race as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Besiktas claimed bragging rights in a dramatic Istanbul derby-handing Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray a significant lift in their quest for a historic 25th league crown.

The much-anticipated encounter between former Manchester United bosses, now rivals in Turkey, saw Solskjaer outwit Mourinho, with Besiktas edging out Fenerbahce thanks to a decisive strike from Gedson Fernandes in the 73rd minute.

The result snapped Fenerbahce’s five-match unbeaten streak and left Mourinho visibly frustrated.

With Fenerbahce stumbling, league leaders Galatasaray are now the biggest winners, having already seen off Sivasspor in a comprehensive win.

Okan Buruk’s side has opened up a commanding eight-point lead at the top, with the momentum firmly with Galatasaray, who recently delivered a resounding 4-1 win over the Braves, with Osimhen starring by netting a brace and leading the line superbly.

Osimhen and Galatasaray March Towards Glory

Galatasaray’s form has been relentless, rarely dropping points and showcasing attacking flair through Osimhen, Baris Alper Yilmaz, and Yunus Akgun. 

Osimhen continued his fine form.

The harmony and confidence within the squad, marshalled by Buruk, have them on course for a third consecutive Super Lig title. 

The latest twist in the title race-courtesy of Solskjaer’s Besiktas-means Galatasaray are now clear favourites, with Fenerbahce’s hopes hanging by a thread.

For Solskjaer, the victory marks a high point in his Besiktas tenure after a challenging run in recent games. 

The Norwegian tactician, who succeeded Mourinho at Manchester United, has now delivered a result that could define the Super Lig season. 

Fernandes scored the only goal.

Meanwhile, Mourinho, still seeking to bring silverware to Fenerbahce, faces growing pressure as the title slips further from his grasp.
