The Kenyan was unable to add to his goal tally for the season during the match.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga was silenced as Al Duhail SC fought back to draw 2-2 against Al Sadd in a Qatar Stars League encounter on Sunday.

Olunga played for full minutes as his side fought back from 2-0 down to eventually pick up a point away from home.

Baghdad Bounedjah – with an assist from Santi Carzola - scored the opening goal for the home side in the 34th minute before the former Arsenal player found the back of the net in the 57th minute.

Al Duhail scored their first goal in the sixth minute of added time of the second half through Naam Tae-Hee. Two minutes later, they equalised as Federico Fernandez found the back of the net.

Although Al Duhail remain on top of the table with 36 points, the two dropped points against third-placed Al Sadd will be considered a setback.

After the comeback, Al Duhail’s head coach, Hernan Crespo, praised Olunga’s teammates.

"The team appeared and proved its character once again," he told the club’s website after the match.

"We have faced many difficulties throughout the season, especially this week, namely the injuries and illness of many players, as well as the suspension of one of our key players.

"There were players on the bench who were not in good enough health to participate in the match, but despite these circumstances and under this scenario, we were able to play and perform at a high level during the game.

"I would like to thank all the players for their huge efforts exerted and for the extra energy they provided today. They fought with all their hearts and succeeded in achieving a draw in the fatal time."

Next for Olunga and his teammates is another league game, against Qatar SC on March 18.
