Kenya 7s will take part in the inagural NYC 7s in New York in July

The national men’s sevens side, Shujaa have been drawn in the Red Pool for the inaugural New York City Sevens which will take place at the Red Bull Arena in New York City, USA from the 15- 16th of July 2023.

They have been pooled against HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series champions New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa.

The Blue Pool consists of double Olympic champions Fiji, France, Ireland, and the USA.

Shujaa will begin the one-day event with a match against reigning series champions New Zealand before facing Australia and South Africa in their subsequent fixtures.

The winners of each pool will compete in the final for the overall title.

The second placed teams will compete in the bronze medal match while third placed teams will fight for the plate title with the bowl final comprising of the fourth placed teams in each pool.

The winning side will take home a million dollars (Ksh136 million) worth of cash money. Having suffered the pain of relegation from the World Series for the first time in 19 years. 

The tournament will be a good way for Shujaa to test itself at the highest level of World Rugby and bag a hefty price that will help Kenyan Rugby redevelop.
