Arthur Gitego's impressive two-goal performance could not secure victory for AFC Leopards in a close match against Nairobi United.

Rwanda international Arthur Gitego scored two goals yet it was not enough as AFC Leopards fell short in a gripping 3-2 defeat against Nairobi United on Saturday morning.

This intense face-off between the FKF Premier League stalwarts and the National Super League title contenders unfolded at the NYS Grounds in Nairobi.

Gitego, whose recent training sessions with AFC Leopards have been closely watched, demonstrated why he is a sought-after talent in the football arena.

Reports have been swirling about Gitego's future, with indications that he has signed a two-year deal with the club, although official confirmation remains pending.

His former team, Marines FC from the Rwanda Premier League, has confirmed his departure, further fueling speculations about his next move.

The 22-year-old forward has been the center of attention in the transfer market, having received offers from foreign clubs including CA Bizertin of Tunisia and Macedonia's FK Shkupi.

Gitego's journey to prominence has been marked by significant milestones, including his senior debut for Rwanda in November 2023 and his participation in the goalless draw against Zimbabwe in Huye during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Before his current acclaim, Gitego honed his skills at various clubs, including Heroes FC, Kiyovu Sports, and Gicumbi FC.

The match against Nairobi United was more than just a routine fixture for AFC Leopards. It was an opportunity to assess players in a closed-door match, away from the prying eyes of journalists and the pressure of a public spectacle.

Ingwe's next challenge lies against Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday, 4th February, a matchup that promises to be as riveting as their last encounter.

Currently positioned 10th in the league standings, AFC Leopards are on a trajectory of improvement, a testament to their fifth win of the season against Nairobi City Stars, a convincing 2-0 victory.
