Napoli president is directly involved in negotiations to acquire Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, whose future at Anfield is uncertain.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly taken a hands-on approach in negotiations to acquire Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan future at Anfield appears uncertain after three years with the Merseyside club. While a potential transfer fee remains a key sticking point between the two clubs, De Laurentiis's direct involvement suggests that Napoli is seriously interested in securing Nunez's services.

Nunez arrived at Liverpool three years ago for a club-record £85 million, but his role diminished last season under manager Arne Slot. He started only eight league games, fueling speculation about a potential move.

Currently, Darwin Nunez is highly sought after, and according to the Daily Mail, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, and Al-Hilal are in the race to sign the striker.

Napoli, coached by Antonio Conte, are keen to find a helper for Romelu Lukaku and Darwin Nunez seems like a great addition to the team owing to his versatile nature.

Napoli are also looking to go for their second consecutive Serie A title and in the latter stages of the Champions League next season.

To portray their seriousness, De Laurentiis has since personally engaged in the negotiations, according to Corriere dello Sport.

There has been speculation that Darwin Nunez is interested in joining Napoli, but the talks have stalled in recent weeks. This prompted the president to act swiftly and take the matter into his own hands.

The Serie A champions have yet to reach an agreement with Liverpool on a transfer fee, with Liverpool reportedly valuing the striker at €60m (£51m).

Napoli, however, are hesitant to go beyond €43m (£37m), which is significantly lower than the amount Liverpool paid Benfica in 2022.

As an alternative, Napoli are considering Udinese's Lorenzo Lucca, though the 24-year-old Italy international is also expected to cost at least €40m (£34m).

If Darwin Nunez joins Napoli, he would link up with Kevin De Bruyne, who completed a move to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium last month.

The Serie A champions are also exploring moves for Rasmus Hojlund and Trevoh Chalobah as they look to strengthen their squad further.
