Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has reacted to the transfer of wonderkid Aldrine Kibet to La Liga club Celta Vigo.

Kibet completed a dream transfer to the Spanish club on Wednesday, signing a four-year contract until 2029, and will hope to quickly impress so that he can be promoted to the senior team.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will start his Celta adventure with Celta Fortuna, the club’s junior side, before he works his way up the ranks and there is optimism that he will be lighting up the La Liga in the not-so-distant future.

Responding to the transfer of the Kenya U20 star, Olunga was thrilled to see one of Kenya’s top talents earn a high-profile move to one of the world’s top leagues.

What Has Olunga Said About Kibet’s Transfer?

“All the best Aldrine in your new work station @RCCelta @CeltaEnglish. Future is bright. Keep shining. Keep winning,” Olunga said through a social media post.

Kibet will hope to follow in the footsteps of Olunga who became the first Kenyan player to directly earn a move to a La Liga team following his season-long loan move to Girona in the 2017-18 season.

The youngster joined Celta after spending the last two years at the Nastic Sports Academy in Tarragona, Spain where he impressed after his heroics in the 2023 National Secondary School Games when he was voted the most valuable player.

He also impressed for Kenya’s U18 team during that year’s CECAFA Championships as Junior Stars reached the final while he was also among the standout players for Rising Stars at the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in May.
