Kaizer Chiefs are firming up their interest in Harambee Stars striker who Benni McCarthy likes.

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga could soon find himself back in the African continent amid links with South African giants.

Olunga, who plies trade for Qatar Stars League Al-Duhail, having scored 75 goals in 80 appearances since signing in 2021, is being tracked by Kaizer Chiefs according to MSN.

The tabloid adds that the Harambee Stars captain is back on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs and that the Premiership Super League giants are likely to bid for the 31-year-old during the summer transfer window.

“They are looking at different options and Michael (Olunga) is back on Chiefs’ radar. They are not giving up on him," MSN reports.

Kaizer Chiefs will be back in to the CAF Champions league next season and the focus is to sign experienced players that will aid the team's title ambitions.

“The thing is they will be playing in Africa next season and they are believed to be looking at experienced strikers who could win them games at that level and Olunga is one of them and that’s why they are not giving up on him.

Chiefs have not given up yet on Olunga considering that they face an uphill task to convince another star forward in Mayele. Pyramids are planning to extend the contract of their star striker.

"It seems there are few challenges with getting Mayele on board.

“It’s believed that Pyramids are already planning on extending his contract and then there is interest from other Egyptian teams which makes it hard for the club to meet the asking price. Apparently, as much as they still want him, they are looking at other alternatives, and Michael Olunga is on top of that list of strikers if they can't get Mayele."

Benni McCarthy could be crucial in this transfer and will likely be involved in decision making for his goal-poacher.

The South African has maintained that Olunga remains his talismanic Harambee Stars striker despite calls from some quarters wanting him to drop the barley forward.

Michael Olunga is too expensive for Kaizer Chiefs.

Olunga started his football journey with Liberty Sports Academy in 2012 before joining Tusker in 2013 on loan where he made 18 appearances and scored twice.

2014 and 2015 saw Olunga don the colours of Thika United and Gor Mahia respectively. It was at Gor Mahia that Olunga made a name for himself. He bagged 19 goals in 27 appearances before signing a professional contract with Djurgardens IF.

During the 2017-18 season, Olunga played for Guizhou Zhicheng in the Chinese Super League and was loaned out to Girona.

He spent three years with Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol before heading to Qatar.
