Nyayo Stadium has seen its standards elevated thanks to the government's effort to beat the tight deadline for CHAN 2024.
Nyayo Stadium has received a fresh look ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024).
Nyayo is among the two facilities that will host matches during the August 2-30 tournament that will be staged in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and after months of waiting, it is nearly ready to be handed to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
As per latest pictures shared by Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, player changing rooms, referees' quarters, a ball boys' room, infirmary, anti-doping control centre, massage and recovery suites and match officials' briefing rooms are ready.

“The Media Tribune, upgraded to accommodate 86 journalists, is complemented by Voice-over-Control (VoC) rooms with integrated CCTV systems to ensure top-tier security and coordination. The newly completed presidential lounge and second-floor VIP lounge offer an elevated match-day experience for dignitaries and invited guests,” Omollo further shared.
Nyayo Stadium will also be the base for CAF during the month-long tournament with office space fully furnished and operational, while the sitting capacity at the facility is now 18,000 after the renovation work.
After concerns from CAF over the state of the pitch and standard of grass, the playing surface is now in pristine condition with floodlights that will enable matches to be played at night.
Nyayo is among the facilities that have lagged behind in Kenya but pressure from CAF and tightening deadline has forced the government into a tight corner.
