The South Africans tacttician has emphasized the stark difference between club and international football as preparations for the delayed 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) intensify.

Speaking ahead of Harambee Stars' friendly match against Chad on Tuesday at the Stade Marrakech in Morocco, McCarthy stressed the importance of assessing players' capabilities on a higher platform.

McCarthy on the Difference of Playing For Gor Mahia And AFC Leopards vs the National Team

"I have to see what they are capable of at the international level, because they are not now playing for Leopards or Tusker or Gor Mahia, and it's different," McCarthy stated.

"It is different when you come here, so I want to see the level of the players and which players that I'm going to move forward with when we come to CHAN."

The friendly against Chad marks the second encounter between the two sides in quick succession, following a barren stalemate in their first leg clash at the same venue on Saturday.

These matches are crucial for McCarthy to fine-tune his squad and identify the players who can withstand the rigors of international competition.
