Ochieng was included in the provisional squad for the side’s games against Gabon and Seychelles, but failed to make the final squad, but it is not deterring him from wanting to make the next step next time.

Gor Mahia vice captain Geoffrey 'Simiti' Ochieng believes that he will earn more Harambee Stars call-ups and senior caps in the near future despite missing a chance to make his debut in the last international break.

Ochieng was included in the provisional squad for Kenya's games against Gabon and Seychelles but failed to make the final squad, however, that is not deterring him from wanting to make the next step.

“I am grateful to be called up because there are many players and many teams and getting called up is not easy,” Ochieng’ said.

“I thank God for it. I was not able to make the final squad but at least I am sure things will be better next time.”

Famous for his no-nonsense tackles and imposing physical presence, Ochieng has received rave waves by making life difficult for his opponents, clearing everything that came his way, to the delight of fans.

He also adds an extra threat down the left wing for K’Ogalo with his runs and crosses in the box for the Gor attackers to feed onto.

Meanwhile, the energetic full-back is refusing to get carried away by the fact that K’Ogalo stand a realistic chance of repeating their 2015 heroics when they won the title unbeaten, saying that players have to ‘work hard’ each game to achieve their targets.

“Being unbeaten is a challenge. The only thing we can do is work hard, that is a non-negotiable for every player. Everyone is putting his best foot forward as we fight for points every match.”

Gor Mahia are currently second on 24 points, one behind leaders Posta Rangers.
