Arsenal have parted ways with their versatile defender as the club continues to reshape its defensive setup.

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu's time at the Emirates has come to an end after the club agreed to mutually terminate his contract.

The Japanese international joined the Gunners from Bologna four years ago and proved a reliable presence in various defensive positions under Mikel Arteta.

Tomiyasu's versatility made him a valuable asset; however, he has struggled to make an impact for the Gunners and Pulse Sports Kenya looks at three reasons why Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta decided to let him go and not give him another chance to prove himself.

3 Reasons Why Arsenal Parted Ways with Takehiro Tomiyasu

1) Persistent Injury Setbacks

Ongoing knee injuries have kept Takehiro Tomiyasu sidelined, including nearly all of last season, limiting his impact for Arsenal.

The 26-year-old made just a single substitute appearance against Southampton last October before suffering a second significant knee ligament injury.

In February, following a period of silence, the Arsenal defender addressed his injury setback: “I’ve had surgery on my knee a few days ago.

“I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again. It has been the toughest period in my career, and it continues a bit more, but I won’t give up. Thank you for your support, and see you again."

2) Contract Expiry Nearing

Takehiro Tomiyasu has had persistent fitness issues that have robbed him and the club of what could have been his prime period at Arsenal.

With his deal set to expire next season, both parties agreed on a mutual termination rather than extend uncertainty.

Tomiyasu’s fitness struggles mean he cannot contribute during what should have been his peak at the club.

With new defensive targets in mind and other changes already happening, Arsenal are opting for a clean break.

The club is actively targeting new defenders and reshaping the backline, making Tomiyasu’s exit part of a wider overhaul.

Arsenal had made an initial bid for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera but was turned down earlier this week. The club is likely to come back with a revised offer.

Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney has sealed a return to Celtic, and Oleksandr Zinchenko could be on his way out, with several Premier League sides showing interest.
