FOOTBALL FKFPL Preview: AFC Leopards seek to maul KCB as Shabana seek first win against Talanta

AFC Leopards coach Tom Juma will be hoping to get the first win of the season against KCB, while hyped-up Shabana will be seeking to beat FC Talanta.

Gameweek Two of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) is set to commence on Friday, September 1 with five matches set to kick off in various grounds across the country from 3:00 PM.

AFC Leopards will be seeking to get back to winning ways against KCB in a match that will take place at the Kasarani Annex at 3:00 PM

Ingwe, who signed 17 new players after their transfer ban was finally lifted in mid-August, played like a team that is still yet to gel on Sunday as they were held to a 0-0 draw by FC Talanta at the Nyayo National Stadium in the opening weekend.

Tom Juma’s charges also struggled to create a lot of open-play chances against the Ken Kenyatta-coached outfit, and it was even more concerning that they could not find a way to score after Talanta were reduced to ten men early in the second half.

They will be hoping to make amends this week, although they will be facing a KCB side that was resolute defensively under previous head coach Zedekiah Zico Otieno and are set to stay that way under Benard Mwalala, who is known to set up his side to be very compact.

However, KCB are yet to play as Kakamega Homeboyz, the side they were set to face in the opening match of the season, were away on continental duty in Libya, where they were drubbed 4-1 by Al Hilal Benghazi.

Nearby at the Kasarani Annex, Sofapaka will be facing Bandari at the same time hoping to build on from their 1-1 draw against Gor Mahia in the opening match of the season.

New coach Francis Harigingo admitted that his side is still understanding his new methods and are still gelling after they completed the signings of 17 new players this season.

Bandari dominated their opening fixture against Tusker, but could not convert the chances they created and were made to pay for their profligacy, as they were punished by a Deogracious Ojok goal.

Head coach Twahir Muhiddin will be hoping that his side will take the chances they create at the second time of asking if they are to stand a chance of realising their dream of lifting a long overdue FKFPL title at the end of the season.

At the Nyayo National Stadium, newly-promoted Shabana FC will be hoping to get their first FKFPL win rallied by the support of their massive fan base when they play FC Talanta at the same time.

Shabana narrowly lost 1-0 to Murang’a Seal at the Homa Bay Stadium in the last minute of the match and will have their work cut out to beat Talanta, who are very hard to break down under the tutelage of Kenyatta.

At the Police Sacco Stadium, Kenya Police will be hoping to get all three points against John Kamau’s Posta Rangers after being held to an underwhelming 0-0 draw by Kariobangi Sharks last Saturday.

Police are hotly tipped to contest for the league title this season, and will now need wins to help make that dream a reality.

They will not find it easy against a Posta side that are compact without the ball and very threatening on the break especially from the flanks.
