Manchester United’s desire to sign a top Premier League goalkeeper has been knocked back after the Red Devils submitted a loan offer.

Manchester United's attempt to secure Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on loan has been rebuffed. The Red Devils are searching for goalkeeping reinforcements after a challenging season for Andre Onana.

Martinez, 32, has caught the eye of United officials with his impressive performances for both Aston Villa and Argentina. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the World Cup winner would be "very keen" on a move to Old Trafford.

Despite United's approach, Villa have firmly stated that Martinez is not for sale. With four years remaining on his contract, Villa hold a strong negotiating position.

Internal discussions are ongoing at United regarding their goalkeeping targets, weighing up the merits of a younger versus a more experienced option. Should they opt for youth, Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens is reportedly on their radar.

The 23-year-old Belgian has become a regular starter in his domestic league and received his first senior international call-up earlier this year. Lammens has two years left on his current contract with Royal Antwerp.

During their talks with Aston Villa about Martinez, Manchester United also enquired about the availability of striker Ollie Watkins. Despite already acquiring Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, the Red Devils are still looking to bolster their attack.

Villa have indicated their desire to retain Watkins. However, it remains to be seen whether United will submit a formal offer for the forward.

In addition to Watkins, United have also been linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. Newcastle's Alexander Isak, however, is considered too expensive and is not being pursued.
