Football Kenya Federation has announced a big development tat will help Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has assured fans that the use of teargas will be abolished at football matches going forward in a bid to create a safe and secure environment for the footballing community.

A number of complaints have been raised in recent time from fans and players about the use of teargas by police to manage crowds at football events but that is bound to end soon if FKF CEO Harold Ndege is to be believed.

"I had a meeting with some senior members of the National Police Service, and we agreed that the use of teargas at football events should not be happening. We must adopt other methods of managing fans,” Ndege told Mozzart Sports.

The federation further announced plans to train police officers involved in providing security during matches in order to align with CAF and FIFA standards.

“In the near future, we will ensure that individual police officers receive training from CAF on how football events should be managed, so they can exercise restraint even when dealing with unruly fan behavior inside the stadium."

"According to standard FIFA regulations, police officers are not permitted within the perimeter of the stadium,” Ndege reiterated.

Dandora Stadium has seen matches, especially those involving Gor Mahia or AFC Leopards, temporarily halted as fans and players seek cover from the effects of teargas deployed outside the venue.

This has raised many questions regarding its necessity and appropriateness.

Chaos were recently witnessed when Gor Mahia clashed with Shabana in the Nyanza derby where one person was reported dead and several others injured.
