Gor Mahia have explained their structure over ticket sales amid talks of the Mashemeji Derby postponement.
Gor Mahia have reportedly rejected the Football Kenya Federation's (FKF) proposal to stage the Mashemeji Derby at Ulinzi Sports Complex, forcing yet another postponement of the high-stakes fixture against arch-rivals AFC Leopards.
The match was initially set to be played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, but had to be relocated after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) objected to the use of the pitch, citing ongoing renovations and the need to preserve the surface ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
With only five rounds left before the FKF Premier League season concludes on May 31, pressure is mounting to reschedule the derby in time, as the league champions must be submitted to CAF by July 1.

Harambee Stars Coach Benni McCarthy Snubs Bafana Bafana As He Declares Allegiance
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has declared his allegiance if Kenya and his beloved South Africa's Bafana Bafana encounter each other.
Officials from Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, FKF, and the Sports Stadia Management Board had reportedly agreed to Kasarani as the venue during a meeting on Tuesday.
However, Gor Mahia later pulled out, citing security concerns. According to Nation Sport, the club was unwilling to risk fan safety following recent violence during their fixture against Shabana at Gusii Stadium, where several Gor fans sustained injuries.
In a strongly-worded letter dated May 6 and signed by club chairman Ambrose Rachier, Gor Mahia condemned the handling of the Gusii incident and declared they would not return to such high-risk venues.
The club also questioned the logic of holding the derby at Ulinzi Sports Complex, noting past hooliganism at the venue—including an incident on September 22 last year when Shabana fans destroyed seats and damaged property during a match against Ulinzi Stars.
Moreover, the club expressed concern over FKF’s proposal to cap the number of fans attending the derby due to the limited capacity at Ulinzi.

Gor Mahia argued that such restrictions would severely impact gate revenue. During the first-leg derby held on March 30, AFC Leopards reportedly generated KSh7.3 million from ticket sales.
This marks the fourth postponement of the Mashemeji Derby this season, with the initial match—set for November 23, 2023—also delayed due to stadium renovations at both Nyayo and Kasarani.
Gor Mahia encourage fans to keep buying tickets
Despite the chaos, Gor Mahia maintained a tone of reassurance to their supporters, writing on X (formerly Twitter):
“We encourage fans to continue buying the derby tickets online as there is no official communication canceling/postponing the big match that was set for Sunday.
“ If there are changes, we will relay the word promptly. In the event the match will be rescheduled, your tickets will be safe and will be used when the match will be played,” the club wrote
