Kylian Mbappe has been praised for his halftime team talk in France's win over the Netherlands
France’s new captain, Kylian Mbappe, is being lauded for his leadership qualities after a video of his spirited halftime speech during Les Bleus’ 4-0 demolition of the Netherlands surfaced.
France beat Netherlands in Mbappe’s first game as captain
France cruised to a comfortable victory over the Netherlands in the opening game of their EURO 2024 qualifying campaign, coinciding with the first game of Mbappe’s tenure as Les Bleus captain.
The 24-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward scored twice and assisted Antoine Griezmann’s opening goal in a man-of-the-match performance against The Netherlands and he has also drawn praise for his off-pitch conduct as well.
Mbappe leads France’s halftime team talk
The video, posted on the FFF’s social media channels shows Mbappe at halftime vocally charging up his teammates ahead of the second half against the Netherlands in their record-setting victory.
Following Mbappe’s appointment as captain of the national team, there were doubts over his ability to lead the team, and the knock-on effect that snubbing older members of the team for the World Cup golden boot winner would have.

However, the halftime video has gone some way to allay those fears, with the players appearing to be in high spirits and fully in support of Mbappe.
France’s next game is against Ireland on Monday, as they look to maintain their good start to the EURO 2024 qualifying campaign.
