Djed Spence’s sister Karla-Simone Spence seems to have ended the speculation over the true nationality of her brother following widespread links to Kenya.

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence’s nationality has been a subject of interest in recent months with England, Kenya and Jamaica cited as countries he could represent.

The 24-year-old English-born defender is yet to turn out for the England senior team, having made six appearances for the U21 side, but he has expressed an interest to represent the Three Lions although there have been pleas from elsewhere to have him turn out for Kenya.

That is because of multiple reports that have claimed the right-back, who can also slot in at left-back, has a Kenyan mother and Jamaican father, although he was born in England, making him eligible to play for the three nations.

However, his sister has now sought to set the record straight about Djed Spence’s real nationality and it seems Kenyans have been claiming what is not theirs.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Djed’s sister Karla-Simone Spence, who is a British actress, has distanced their mother Aisha Spence from the East African country.

Djed Spence’s Kenyan-links ‘just a rumour’

“Guys, I thought I should let you all know that my mum isn’t Kenyan,” Karla-Simone Spence wrote.

“Not sure who started this rumour. We are British-Jamaicans. Big up Kenya though.”

Karla-Simone’s post adds a twist into the nationality of the full-back, who has also played for Fulham, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa.

The defender signed for Tottenham in 2022, penning a five-year contract, and has become an integral part of the team under current coach Ange Postecoglou.

He has made 28 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals, but was overlooked by England coach Thomas Tuchel during the March international window.

Still, he has not lost the desire to represent the Three Lions after saying in an interview with Football London last month that he would like to play for the country, having been born and raised in London.

“Who doesn’t want to play for their country? That’s something I’m looking forward to. If I get called up, happy days; if I don’t, I’ll just keep working hard,” said Djed Spence.

The defender has also never commented over the Kenyan links which further cast doubt over his nationality.
