Lanky forward Donald Ange has left relegated Mathare United to join Kariobangi Sharks on a two-year contract.

The flamboyant dangerman, who was one of the standout performers in an otherwise ordinary Mathare United side that were relegated after 25 years in the topflight of Kenyan football, joins Sharks as he aims at following in the footsteps of Tyson Otieno before the start of last season.

Ange scored six league goals for Mathare United last season, putting him joint-top with Daniel ‘Van Persie’ Otieno, who left to join Sofapaka ahead of the new season.

Otieno left Mathare for Sharks, before his game arguably went to the next level, as he enjoyed what was a remarkable campaign, scoring nine league goals and registering numerous assists, before leaving to join Kenya Police FC.

The Congolese striker has previously played for Hakati Sportiff and also trained with AFC Leopards briefly before he moved to Mathare United.

After failing to secure a contract at Leopards who by then, brought in players despite serving a player transfer ban, Ange, sealed a move to Mathare United in February 2022.

He turned out for the 2008 league champions for two months before crossing to the Somalia Premier League where he signed with Gaadiidka FC.

Ange returned to Mathare before the last season kicked off and fifteen rounds into the term, he was the club’s joint-leading scorer with six goals.

Ange who termed his second stint at Mathare a success said the brief spell he had in Somalia helped him gather more experience.

He admitted to have struggled to make an impact in his maiden stint at Mathare which ended prematurely as the Slum Boys halted their operations in April last year citing financial difficulties.
