Bryan Mbeumo’s transfer to Manchester United is set to see a French club pocket nearly €10 million following a genius decision five years ago.

Bryan Mbeumo's big-money transfer to Manchester United is not just set to benefit his ex-side Brentford but also a little-known French club.

‎Mbeumo signed for United in a deal worth £65 million (€75m) plus £6 million in add-ons, taking it to £71 million (€81 million) after more than a month of negotiations between the two Premier League clubs.

‎That has made the Cameroon forward the most expensive African to ever sign for United and the second most expensive player of all time from the continent.

‎From his fee, Brentford are guaranteed the initial £65 million with the extra £6 million kicking in if certain objectives are achieved.

Which Club Will Pocket Nearly €10M From Mbeumo’s Sale?

However, not all this will be pocketed by the London club as French second division side Troyes is guaranteed up to €9.4 million.

‎This is because Troyes inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause in their deal with Brentford when they sold Mbeumo for £5.8 million in 2019 as per L’Est-eclair.

‎That means the French club will receive £6.4 million (€7.4 million) from the sell-on clause and there is an additional £1.7 million (€2 million) in training compensation, taking the total to €9.4 million from the €81 million sale of Mbeumo to United.

‎Born in France, Mbeumo honed his skills at Troyes where he played from 2016-2019, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists in 46 games, after which he joined Brentford in 2019.

‎He was crucial for the Bees as they secured Premier League promotion in 2021 and has been consistent throughout his five years at the club, having left after netting 70 goals and weighing in with 51 assists in 242 games.
