AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani has vowed to derail Gor Mahia’s title hopes while maintaining his unbeaten record against them in the Mashemeji Derby.

AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani has vowed to spoil Gor Mahia’s campaign and maintain his unbeaten record against K'Ogalo, both as a player and a coach in the Mashemeji Derby.

Ambani and his charges were originally poised to come up against Gor Mahia on Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium in a highly anticipated fixture which has since been postponed to date yet to be confirmed.

The Leopards tactician has promised to spoil Gor Mahia’s title aspirations, denying them maximum points.

Leopards, who place sixth on the FKF Premier League log with 42 points, 13 away from the summit, find themselves far from title contention.

However, Gor Mahia are in a three-way battle for the title with Kenya Police and Tusker.

A loss against Leopards will dent Gor Mahia’s title aspirations, which is something the former Ingwe player is eyeing.

“In this game, there can never be any talk of any team giving each other an easy win because that amounts to match-fixing. We may not be in the title race, but I’m not ready to lose my record to Gor. Let either side give their best on the pitch and win fairly. Gor can still fight for the title by winning other matches, but not this one,” said Ambani, as quoted by Nation Sports.

Ambani, who boasts never losing to the record champions either as a coach or a player, looks to carry on that trajectory.

At the same time, the Leopards tactician came out strongly to caution fans against hooliganism during the high-risk clash.

“Gor and Leopards have been in this league for long. We are brothers and have co-existed in harmony. There is no need to fight but to enjoy the game and win, so I urge our fans, in the spirit of brotherhood and love for football, to come in numbers so that Gor can also get a good amount of money in gate collections,” said Ambani.

Gor Mahia’s recent matches have been marred by chaos, especially highlighted by the high-risk clash against Shabana on Sunday.

However, the Mashemeji Derby first leg proved to be a harmonious one, bar a few instances.

The match, hosted at the Nyayo National Stadium after months of postponement, saw Leopards reap big with record gate collections.

Gor Mahia are expected to make a similar return when they eventually announce the date for the postponed clash.
