Kenya's national basketball team, the Morans, has emerged victorious in their opening match of the FIBA Afrocan campaign.

The Kenyan team displayed remarkable resilience and skill, defeating Ivory Coast with a final score of 62-52 in a match played at the Arena Kilamba, on the outskirts of Angola's capital, Luanda.

From the very beginning, the Morans showcased their determination to dominate the game. They swiftly took control of the court in the first quarter, securing a 15-10 lead.

With an impressive display of teamwork and tactical brilliance, they continued to maintain their advantage, leading 34-27 at the break.

The Morans demonstrated their adaptability, particularly in the third quarter, as they engaged in a closely contested battle with Ivory Coast.

Both teams put up a strong fight, resulting in a tied score of 15-15. However, the Morans managed to regain their composure and finished the game with an impressive 13-10 run in the final quarter.

Prior to the game, Morans coach Owuor emphasized the importance of adapting to each opponent. "We will approach each game at a time. I have watched both teams, and we will try to make adjustments to fit in both. Ivory Coast looks a bit decent, and so we will approach them with a different strategy.”

This victory holds significant importance for the Kenyan team, considering their previous encounter with Ivory Coast during the group phase of the 2021 Afrobasket edition.

With their sights set on advancing to the quarterfinals, the Morans are drawn in Group A and are set to face Gabon in their next match on Monday.

The team's exceptional performance against Ivory Coast has boosted their confidence, and they are eager to maintain their winning momentum.

The format of the tournament offers a path to the knockout stages for both the group winners and the second and third-placed teams.

The Morans aim to secure the top spot in Group A to directly qualify for the quarters, while the second and third-placed teams will compete against each other for a chance to progress.
