Nairobi City Thunder captain explains why their victory was history in the making.

Nairobi City Thunder captain Tyler Ongwae says the team is delighted to have picked a first ever win at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in Kigali, Rwanda.

Thunder made a huge improvement, beating South Africa’s Made By Basketball (MBB) 85-76 at the BK Arena in Kigali, having lost their first four games.

MBB had beaten them at the buzzer in the first game, and they served revenge with an assured performance.

In an interview with Telecomasia.net, said the players were eager to put their losing streak behind them and give Kenyans something to smile about.

"We spoke even before the game and we knew we were far much better than our performances in the first few games. We picked out what we did wrong and we corrected," Ongwae said.

He maintained that from the first whistle, the team maintained maximum concentration and gave their opponents little room to dictate the tempo of the game.

"From the first minute everyone was locked in and we wanted to win it for the team and everyone back at home. It was a performance to be proud of and we are delighted to have made history by winning that game.

"It has spurred our confidence heading to the last game where we also want to finish on a high. This has been a great experience for us and we have learnt a lot and grown as a team."

Thunder face home side APR in their final game, and will also look to make amends having lost their first encounter.
