It is imperative to correct that Tobi Amusan's victory at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational doesn't make her the fastest woman in the world as being proclaimed by many Nigerian media outlets.

At the Jamaica Athletics Invitational, Tobi Amusan clocked a world-leading time of 12.40s to win the women's 100mH event ahead of home favorite and world champion Danielle Williams.

While her time was impressive as it propelled her back in the conversation of being the top contender to challenge Jasmine Camacho-Quinn's Olympic title in Paris, it is imperative to note that her victory doesn't make her the fastest woman in the world - being proclaimed by many Nigerian media outlets.

Amusan's mark is only a world-leading time - meaning she currently has the event's fastest time this season. The fastest woman in the world is Sha'Carri Richardson, who claimed the 100m title at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.

In addition, the fastest woman remains the winner of a specific sprint event at a previous world championships. So despite Amusan defeating Williams, the Jamaican still has the bragging rights of the title after her victorious performance in Budapest last year.

Also, there have been claims that Amusan broke her World Record (WR) at the meet in Jamaica. This is also false as her WR remains the 12.12s clocked in the semifinals of the 2022 World Championships in Oregon before going on to win the final in a wind-aided 12.06s.

Her 12.40s is only a Season's Best (SB) - meaning her best-performing time this season, which she can still lower before the year ends, especially at the Paris Olympic Games.

In conclusion, Amusan didn't break her WR or any record, and neither is she the fastest woman in the world because she defeated the reigning world champion at a regular meet.

She only clocked a world-leading or fastest time of the season in her event; thus can still be erased by her or any female hurdler at any subsequent meet.
