Jamaican sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has opened up on the reason behind her decision to show other parents dust during her son’s school’s sports day recently.

Jamaica sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has opened up on why she had no mercy for fellow parents at her son's school's sports day last month.

Fraser-Pryce made headlines when a video of her literally running alone after leaving fellow parents way behind went viral on social media.

That was during her son Zyon's school's sports day after the eight-year-old had also won his event.

It was considered arrogant by some for Fraser-Pryce, a professional sprinter, to run as if she was competing for a world record or a gold medal yet it was just a race for parents.

However, the 38-year-old has defended her decision, saying it was necessary to show her competitive side to her son who had to overcome past defeats before winning this year.

"It's important that I show up for my son and show as I am because I think it's very important that he sees I am competitive and I love to compete and he sees that. He was excited," Fraser-Pryce said in Doha on Thursday.

"Two years ago, it was his first sports day and we ran and he wasn't so into it because he wasn't having a good sports day.

"Now, he has won two races at sports day and he was excited and said; 'mommy you have to run' and just that pride and joy I saw in his face when I crossed that line was truly special and as Jamaicans, sports day is a must as a parent."

Fraser-Pryce, who was part of the Jamaica 4X100m team that won bronze at the World Relays Championships last weekend, will be among the star attractions at Doha Diamond League on Friday night.
