Former American middle-distance runner Kyle Merber has challenged American track and field fans to emulate the spirit of Africans when it comes to cheering athletes.
At the ongoing African Games in Accra, Ghana, the 33-year-old was impressed by how the fans cheered the athletes as they competed in the 4x100m men’s relay.

Reigning World 800m champion Mary Moraa and javelin star Julius Yego are among the thousands of people in awe of Winny Bii after she made history at the African Games.
He shared the clip on his X (Twitter) handle and captioned it saying: “Dear American track fans, please watch this 4x100 from today's African Games in Ghana. Thanks, Kyle. P.S. - This is the prelim.”
During the race, home fans are seen cheering Team Ghana who went ahead and took first place in both their heat and semifinal of the race. Merber challenged track and field fans from America to emulate what the Ghanaians did during the race.

Loren Ahonen, one of the X (Twitter) users commented on the post, seemingly agreeing that fans in Ghana give a positive aura and are always ready to show up. He said: “Great environment. Exciting call. All good here, baby!”
Another fan, Nessa Molloy added another comment saying: “Great environment. Exciting call. All good here, baby!”
Vanessa Bogenholm also lamented that the USA lacks fans to show up for the track and field events. She complained that such meets are great for the fans and they get more people excited about track and field.
“Like a soccer match with great fun announcers! We so lack this for our USA meets. Great for the fans and to get more people excited about track and field,” she said.
