Athletics Kenya have given clear instructions on the eligibility of youngsters (U18 and U20) who wish to participate in the 2023/24 season's events.

Athletics Kenya has announced the requirements for youngsters, U18 and U20 athletes, who wish to participate in the cross-country and track and field events of the 2023/2024 season.

In a press statement released to the media, it was explained that for the fifth leg of the cross-country scheduled for Saturday, November 25, the youngsters are encouraged to carry their original documents.

“The department wishes to inform all the athletes participating in the U18 and U20 categories to carry their original birth certificates for vetting purposes during registration of the cross-country series events, in line with the competition’s rules and regulations on age categories,” the statement read in part.

Athletics Kenya also emphasised their quest to identify, nurture and develop young talent. As they encouraged the youngsters to take part in the events, they also explained that the country is preparing to have a formidable team participate in the World Under-20 Championships in Peru next year.

They explained that for an athlete to be eligible, he/she has to be 19 years old or younger by December 31 of the year of competition, meaning the athlete should be born between 2005 and 2008.

So far, Athletics Kenya have started their 2023/2024 season with the cross-country series, having hosted four legs so far.

The first leg was held in Machakos County with the second leg being held in Kapsokwony. The third leg was held in Bomet while the fourth leg was held in Olkalau.
