Trayvon Bromell Shocks Fred Kerley, Ferdinand Omanyala in 100m Rome Showdown to Set New World Lead

Trayvon Bromell comfortably obliterated a strong 100 meter field at the Rome Diamond League classic on Friday night to set a new world leading time.

2015 World 100m bronze medalist Trayvon Bromell made a statement of intent at the Rome Diamond League classic on Friday as he stunned a strong field to set a world leading 9.84 seconds in the event.

Bromell, who has struggled with injury in recent years, got out of the blocks like a rocket and executed his race ideally to sail to the win, creating a considerable distance over his competitors in the process.

Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon had to settle for second place on 9.99 seconds, while Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala finished third on 10.01 seconds.

American duo Brandon  Hicklin and Fred Kerley finished fourth and fifth on 10.04 and 10.05 seconds respectively, with Lindey Courtney coming sixth on 10.18 seconds.

Italy’s Filipo Tortu was seventh in 10.19 seconds. Abdul Hakim Sani Brown of Japan set a season best 10.31 seconds with Ali Chitu of Italy the only sprinter that failed to run in under 11 seconds as he finished dead last with a time of  11.21 seconds.
