Olympic champion Marcel Jacobs has revealed that he is not beefing with world champion Fred Kerley and they speak often.

In the recent past, Jacobs and Kerley were involved in an altercation that saw them request for a one-on-one race to determine who the greatest 100m athlete is. Speaking about their relationship, Jacobs revealed that they are on good terms and there is no bad blood between them.

“As I said before, I speak often with Fred Kerley. In his last message on Instagram, he told me that he was happy that I was coming back. We talk regularly,” Jacobs said during a pre-race conference for the Diamond League Meeting in Paris, France.

The duo was supposed to go head to head at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat but unfortunately, Jacobs pulled out last minute due to an injury. Jacobs also withdrew from the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy insisting that he was not in good shape to compete.

After withdrawing from the two races, track, and field fans on social media had no shortage of jokes and memes about Jacobs avoiding a showdown against Kerley.

When asked about his reaction to what the fans said, Jacobs said: “I don’t need to give any reply to anyone because that would just take energy away from me. I need the energy for myself.

On the other hand, it’s normal that people talk a lot, maybe more than they should. Honestly, if they speak a lot about me, it’s kind of fun. It’s stimulating. It means that they’re interested in what I’m doing so that’s good.”

He will now open his outdoor season in Paris and he will be competing in his first-ever 100m race since the season started. In the absence of Kerley, he will be up against Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala and world 200m champion Noah Lyles.
